iPray uses a 31 day rotation. Each day begins with the statement of what day it is and the days theme. That is followed by an opening doxology; a brief hymn of praise to God. The one used in iPray is printed in the booklet only on day one. It is a familiar one and easily remembered.
After the doxology a Bible passage on the days theme is read and a brief meditation is given.
A song and a psalm follow. The songs are chosen to complement the theme of the day.
The psalm tone is designed for chanting two lines. The lines are indented together to make this clear. Where there are three lines instead of two, the first line ends with the last note lower than normal. Underlined syllables in the text show where note changes occur. Each psalm ends with the doxology.
A time of giving thanks follows, beginning with a scripture. Each day you will be given four prompts to say a prayer of thanks. A brief pause following the prompt is there for you to make up your own prayer. The last prompt is always a reminder to review the past 24 hours and to thank God for good things that have happened.
Next is a scripture about repentance followed by prompts to repent of some specific sins you may have committed. Again each prompt is followed by a brief pause giving you time to respond. The last prompt is always a reminder to review the past 24 hours for any other sins you want to confess to God.
Intercession follows in the same format. A scripture passage is read and some time is given for you to pray according to the prompts. Even when a petition is stated broadly (e.g., those who are ill) it is best to pray specifically whenever you can (e.g., for my aunt with cancer).
Next you chant another psalm that reflects the theme of the day.
This is followed by the Lords Prayer. The one used is spoken and printed in full only on day one.
iPray finishes with a song but you are encouraged to continue praying on your own. You may find it helpful to go back over one of the psalms and say it in your own words. Or you can return to the theme of the day and expand on that. Quiet meditation is also a help in growing closer to the Lord.
